Poconos 4-24 thru 4-26-2023

4/24-28/23
Thought I'd visit some little known streams this trip. This was the first disappointment. While I did catch one wild brookie here I must say it is typical of…
I caught my only brookie under the bridge at the roads edge. No pic of the fish 'cause it jumped off the hook.
This is the pool just off the road. The remainder of the stream is pictured in the top of the photo. It spreads out into a swamp. I was in mud up to my knees…
This is what it looked like. This was the only open stretch of water I could find but no fish. Didn't see any scoot or rise. Slogging through this swamp was…
Day two. I found myself on the Pohopoko just below the Beltzville Dam. I was the only one here until one other fly guy arrived. Thought this might be a waste…
Then this little bow hit. Took him on the surface but after an hour to two of beating the water in the wind I had to start dunking nymphs.

Got a little closer to the dam but never made it all the way there. Just ran out of time and I wanted to check out another location before the end of the day.
Another Pohopoko rainbow.

I really like this stream. It's possible to stretch out a bit of line.
Last day I went to the Lehigh. I wanted to fish Hickory Run but the Fordway Road was shut down...AGAIN. Nothing on the web site indicating a closure. Once…
Then I got this fatty. I use to catch chubs at this location and when I saw a rise or two I thought it had to be chubs again. But, alas, this one hit.
Same fish. It measured out about 17 inches and it insured that my day wasn't a total bust. I tried a bunch of flies, Junk flies, streamers and nymphs and…
If it hadn't been for the wind, this would have been a perfect day. A really nice caddis hatch came off around 1330 hrs or so but the wind kept the bugs off the…
